Cakettes!

cakettes- noun, verb
cakette, caketting, caketted
noun: baked cake mashed up with butter cream icing, rolled into a ball and then dipped into chocolate
verb: the act of making or eating cakettes (caketting)
related words: cake balls, cakelettes

Ditch the store bought chocolates this year, get them some made from scratch, handmade goodies from your favorite little bakery.
Our cakettes are wildly popular and for Valentine's they make a special treat all dolled up with x's and o's. Done in chocolate and vanilla.
$13/dozen
No pre-order necessary, but always appreciated.
We'll have them ready to go for February 1st

Valentine's cookies!

Valentine's Day is certainly not for everyone. I know, by having little ones, that it can be fun, but for the most part, it can be tiring to hear about love, roses, chocolates, kissing, blah blah blah...

Sound like you or someone you know?
Then these are the perfect little treat for you. They make a great gift idea for friends, relatives and especially co-workers.
(so long as they have a smidge of a sense of humor about them...we're not taking the blame for workplace crying...)

Regardless!
Cookies are done by the dozens and are $13. We are taking orders for them up until Monday, February 7th for pick up on Friday (11th), Saturday (12) and Monday (14th).

Why not make them custom? Come up with your own words you'd like, any language! We can custom them for you and really piss off your friends....
Isn't that what Valentine's is all about?

Valentine's Cake!

I made this little cake as a valentine's promotion two years ago and it went over so well we thought we'd do it again this year.
Dense chocolate cake, covered in a mocha butter cream and then enrobed in rich chocolate ganache.
Then decorated in the classic "birds holding a banner" motif.
At 4"x4", the cake is perfect for two (or perfect for yourself with leftovers to take to work the next day :)
$20
We will be taking orders for these until Monday, February 7th and they will be available for pick-up on Friday (11th), Saturday (12th) and Monday (14th).
Drop us a line at
orders@cakeology.ca
or call us at 612-yumm! (9866)

holiday baking!

Holiday baking trays are ready to be ordered!

We are doing smalls (2 dozen/24 pieces) for $30 and larges (4 dozen/48 pieces) for $50.
Order before December 1st and we'll take $5 off!

Perfect for gift giving and for the office, it comes with a variety of cakettes, eggnog twists, oreo cookie fudge, chocolate caramel slice, sugar cookies, peppermint meringues, gingerbread and coconut orange snowballs.
Add on an extra dozen for $10!

Please call the bakery to place your order 612-yumm! (9866)

Wondering about your friends with dietary restrictions? We have a number of gluten free items (the meringues, the chocolate slice and the fudge) can all be done without flour. The fudge we would need to substitute oreo to Irish Cream or chocolate pecan, but otherwise the other two are good. Just let us know and we will be sure to include gluten free items with your order.

happy halloween!

here comes the halloween cupcake parade!

I remember in elementary school that we would dress up and then parade through the other classrooms to show the other kids our costumes.
So cute.

These little ghost ones kind of tie in with our weather here this week.
They look so cold.
Sitting in a little snow pile.
Shivering.

And the best purchase this season was our chocolate molds, one set of skulls and one set of eyeballs. The trick though? having enough time to make them. So we opted to just do white skulls.

These toppers are available all week on our regular cupcakes, no pre-orders necessary for them, but always appreciated.
We'll stock up lots for Saturday!

awesome friends

Here's a fun little ad that my friend Ravi and his very talented crew over at Awesome Co. put together for me.
Nice eh?
I think it's awesome :D
I highly recommend these guys, whether it's for layout, graphic design or printing (like those awesome business cards I have).

cakettes for kids

I first want to start with a huge virtual thank-you to Bakerella, who inspires me all the time.
Endless ideas and endless supply of sprinkles
(I like to think that maybe one day I'll be famous enough that she may pop in and say oh hey pam, no problem!)
I absolutely love the online community of people who make things; baked treats, cakes, crafts and sewing... they're funny, they photograph so well and they share. Like we're all good friends :)
Aren't we though?
If you'd like to try your hand at these little cake pops, do it! Bakerella has step by step instructions and lovely pictures. She'll inspire you too, just keep reading her stuff! If you need help you can always ask me too, I'd love to help. In the future we'll offer these as a class at the bakery, so fun!

I did these ones up on sticks to show you how easy they become handout treats. Office co-workers, your kids class, their teacher, your neighbours, grocery store clerks, the sedin brothers, the mailman...really, everyone.
Except me.
(Please honey, if I eat another one of these I will seriously explode. I'm going to need something different for Valentine's Day.)
These and those damn imperial cookies will have me in a sugar coma any day now...

I digress! The cake pops are available from the 8th to the 12th of February, or as I have dubbed it "my staff are going to kill me" week. Just how many will we make? I'll run a contest for you on the 15th. See if I'm alive then.
They come individually bagged, tied with white ribbon and can be boxed if giving as a gift. Please order by emailing me at cakeologycakes@gmail.com, let me know how many you'd like and which day you'd like them. They are $1 each, minimum of 5 please.

valentines day

It's that time of year again. The sugar high of Christmas has long past and the resolutions for the New Year have been shelved for another year. All these short chilly days followed by long dark nights are wearing down my resistance.
Resistance to all things chocolate.
I'm afraid I may be too weak...

How am I supposed to say no to something that cute? Something so delicious and unsuspecting. I have no defense.
Nada.
Nothin.
Zip.
I surrender, white flags are waving...
Ask me how many of these I've already eaten through the photo shoot.
No wait, don't ask...

So please, drop me an email and order some of these for your loved one and help me spread the deliciousness. And help get them away from me. It's simply not fair for me to be the only one enjoying them :)

(and what exactly are they you ask? cakettes! of course! our classic chocolate or vanilla cake mixed with butter cream icing, hand rolled and dipped in dark or white chocolate)

$10 for a box of 9, all packaged up pretty for you. Drop me a line at cakeologycakes@gmail.com to place your order. They'll be ready for February 11th, 12th & 13th.

you can't eat roses....

In a rare and unexpected turn of events, I have actually beat a time line. I had hoped, skeptically of course, to have some Valentine's Day treats made, tested and photographed by January 31st.

And it's only the 14th!
What the bleep!
Go me!
(and no, I will not disclose what got pushed aside in order to fart around making imperial cookies...)

Regardless, aren't they pretty? And oh so tasty. My favorite is waiting a couple of days to eat them (oh so hard, I have to literally hide them). Sure, cookies are great fresh from the oven, but when it comes to imperials, a couple days is worth their weight in gold. The glazed icing seeps into the top cookie, making it soft and rich, the jam dries slightly to the touch, giving it that thick gooey texture. Don't even get me started about the flavours! This is just the beginning...
The reds, classic favorite, strawberry. Can never go wrong with the strawberry. The yellow ones are peach. Pretty tasty too, but next time I'll try apricot. Let hubby decide the first run of yellows and while the peach is good, I think the apricot will be a stronger flavour. We'll keep you posted :)
And the piece de resistance? The deep purple ones.
Saskatoon's.
That's right, a Manitoba classic meets a classic cookie. So good.

So, should you like, these lovely classics are for sale.
They are $20 per dozen, ordered by the dozen only please :)
please indicate flavour choices-strawberry, raspberry, apricot, peach, blueberry, saskatoon
(around 3 or 4 flavours per dozen makes a good mix)

And in true Manitoba spirit, who doesn't like a deal? Order by February 1st and I'll have them packaged up all pretty and delivered on February 12th to the place of your choice! (Winnipeg city limits please)

In amidst all of the meetings and plannings I've been trying to think of something clever for Valentines Day this year. These berries are looking mighty good...

cookies on parade...part 3

Ahh...the festival of lights.
When I was growing up, I was fortunate to be included in a dear friends family, to the point of being invited to all family functions. That naturally included Chanukah.

As kids, any holiday involving gift opening was an obvious favorite, but for eight nights? Oh how I wanted to live at their house that week. Now that I am older I can appreciate Chanukah for what it means, what it celebrates and reflect on what we are all able to be thankful for.
And I'm looking forward to teaching my own kids about it too.

cookies on parade...part 2

Made my way over to d. a. Niels last week, little personal Christmas shopping for my own stocking. If you haven't been, well you should. Fantastic little locally owned and operated store chock full of all the funnest little gadgets you could imagine. If you have a foody on your Christmas list I highly recommend popping in.
Found these lovely (and large!) present cutters that I just had to have. They have an entire wall with cookie cutters...be prepared to be overwhelmed...
I have found it hard to find nice large cookie cutters and jumped at these when I saw them. Did a variation on the colour theme, these are four of 200...

cookies on parade...

Ran a little contest over on facebook (sorry Andrea) for people to guess the number of cookies I have made over these last couple of weeks. I had gotten myself a couple of major cookie making contracts for the holidays and figured, hey, I'm already making cookies, why not promote them as my seasonal feature...

2532 cookies later...

office surprises

Little sample box I did up for some very nice lawyer friends.

Seems when going and signing a lease, you should also have a lawyer look over it.
Before you sign it
.
I met up with my sister-in-laws man, who is a lawyer, after signing said lease and was subsequently hit upside the head with the rolled up lease multiple times.
Knocked some sense into me.
For a couple of days anyway....then went on my usual way and made a couple thousand cookies...made sense to me!
