who doesn't want cakettes?!
Well it's that lovely gift giving time of year again. We did dainty platters last year and while we specialize in cakes; the cookies and treats drove us to drink (just eggnogg of course :)
So this year we figured, let's give them what they want.
Cakettes.
Perfect for your customers, friends or family, we haven't had someone yet who doesn't like these darn things.
They come in two sizes and will be packaged up in this lovely box. We have a large one of 30 pieces (for $45) and the small with 15 pieces ($25).
They will both come with chocolate cakettes, vanilla cakettes and red velvet cakettes. The flavours can be swapped out with some of our inhouse varieties if you want to change them up. No custom flavours though please, just the choices we have in house.
24 hours needed for ordering, give us a shout at 612-9866!

aceart

Being part of a lovely neighborhood means we should have lovely neighbors.
And we do.
Aceart is just over here at 290 McDermot and we're pleased as punch to have made friends with them. They hosted their Winter Warmer a couple weeks ago and asked us to make a cake for them and so we did.
On a side note we also whipped up over 40L's of whipping cream for them to (lovingly) throw in each others faces.
Now that's a staff party...

christmas cakes three
Another Christmas/Holiday cake for my cake parade. From both Helen Dardik, my favorite illustrator and from Print and Pattern, my favorite inspirational design blog, I came up with this design. Think this will be an ongoing Christmas design. Especially with the lack of red and green.

christmas cakes two...
Its hard to tell from the picture, but this cake is teeny-tiny. Just a one layer 6".
Why so small?
Well, a very thoughtful momma wanted to make sure her darling daughter had something sweet this Christmas. Her daughter has Celiac's, and therefor can't have wheat or wheat products. Over the past months, I have been working on recipes that are gluten free and have a great white cake recipe that is moist and delicious. Can make it vanilla, lemon or orange. Chocolate is no problem, as using cocoa powder often makes up for the consistency and texture of flour, but white cake can be tricky.
We also tried some dainties, but would like to forget about the butter tart incident sooner than later :P
Let's just leave it at ...not perfected yet....
oh christmas tree
Fun Christmas tree.
Twinkle lights.
Not the LED ones. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the environment, but those LED lights stink. I reminisced about the look of the lights on our tree when I was little as I watched Jeff make these ones (thanks hun). Big bulbs, in a rainbow of colour. Couple dozen cupcakes to go with.

cookies on parade...part 2
Made my way over to d. a. Niels last week, little personal Christmas shopping for my own stocking. If you haven't been, well you should. Fantastic little locally owned and operated store chock full of all the funnest little gadgets you could imagine. If you have a foody on your Christmas list I highly recommend popping in.
Found these lovely (and large!) present cutters that I just had to have. They have an entire wall with cookie cutters...be prepared to be overwhelmed...
I have found it hard to find nice large cookie cutters and jumped at these when I saw them. Did a variation on the colour theme, these are four of 200...
cookies on parade...
Ran a little contest over on facebook (sorry Andrea) for people to guess the number of cookies I have made over these last couple of weeks. I had gotten myself a couple of major cookie making contracts for the holidays and figured, hey, I'm already making cookies, why not promote them as my seasonal feature...

2532 cookies later...

office surprises
Little sample box I did up for some very nice lawyer friends.
Seems when going and signing a lease, you should also have a lawyer look over it.
Before you sign it.
I met up with my sister-in-laws man, who is a lawyer, after signing said lease and was subsequently hit upside the head with the rolled up lease multiple times.
Knocked some sense into me.
For a couple of days anyway....then went on my usual way and made a couple thousand cookies...made sense to me!

tidings of comfort
This season is out to kill me.
Now while November may be all coy and unassuming, filled with cookie prep, paper work and what seems to be oodles of days left before the holidays; throwing in the opportunity to sign a lease and add more to my plate may not have been the best idea.
But as I fell asleep last night, and forced my brain into positive meditation (this is exactly what you want, you need this, you love it, enjoy it while you're in the thick of it, you hate being bored....)
(all the while forcing a huge grin. I always find meditating much more effective if you force yourself to smile the entire time). I have been reminded through a good friends blog lately to be thankful for what we have, live in the now, and be grateful.
It's hard, this entrepreneur thing.
I'm starting a new job, an ever changing one, while filling the shoes in a role I've never done before. Breaking new ground, forging new paths, making oodles of new mistakes. I bet there's whole sections dedicated to this topic in the library, but unless it's by Mrs. Stewart or Dr. Seuss, I can't say I've touched it in the last four years.
(the above cake I did up for my moms little Christmas gathering she had on the weekend.
It's completely gluten free and it tasted delicious :D)
Claire says its her, thus explaining the purple headband...
