Valentine's Cake!

I made this little cake as a valentine's promotion two years ago and it went over so well we thought we'd do it again this year.
Dense chocolate cake, covered in a mocha butter cream and then enrobed in rich chocolate ganache.
Then decorated in the classic "birds holding a banner" motif.
At 4"x4", the cake is perfect for two (or perfect for yourself with leftovers to take to work the next day :)
$20
We will be taking orders for these until Monday, February 7th and they will be available for pick-up on Friday (11th), Saturday (12th) and Monday (14th).

the variety cake show

Here's a couple of cakes that were ordered for various parties, a wedding, a wedding shower...you get the idea. Nice sophisticated cakes suitable for any event really...

All three are very different as well. The first is finished in chocolate ganache. Ganache is some nice dark chocolate, melted and whisked with whip cream. You let it set up in the cooler then when you are ready to use it you whip it up.
So divine....
The second and third are both done in fondant, the first showing off some spectacular gum paste roses, the last showing off some lacy cutouts.

When I am working with clients to come up with designs and ideas I like to ask contrasting questions. So you get the party cake recipient in your head and then choose your answers....sophisticated vs. fun, bold vs. dainty, loud vs. quiet....And then from this process I get an idea of the person getting the cake, while I also get design ideas for their cake.

The ideas that this cake was born from was "fun and funky without being childish". Often parties and cakes are too sweet or too goofy and childish. We wanted some strong and bold designs, and wanted to stay away from kid-like stuff. Went with a chocolate cake, vanilla butter cream, and then I finished the cake with a dark chocolate ganache. Yum! The rest of the decor is done in fondant.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Here are a couple of Valentine love birds for you. On the same theme of the valentine special cakes, the cake is a red velvet cake, with a nice layer of cream cheese icing (yum). Then coated in a mocha mousse, then covered in a dark chocolate ganache.
