I enjoy doing birthday cakes for first birthdays. I hope the parents are able to take some time during that day to reflect on the impact and changes they have gone through over the course of one crazy year. Anyone who may have thought that life won't change that much or if they had visions of a calm serenity; holding a peacefully sleeping newborn, while they are full of bliss can only look back and laugh. Oh sure, there are moments of peace, but oh how they are cherished and fleeting....
So while we pine for those single carefree days, I suggest we all sit down and eat cake :) This giant number one cake is finished in real whip cream, a nice alternative to the sweet, rich butter cream. The decorations are done in fondant.
